The countertop can be cleaned with a simple clarification of soap and water and wiped with a soft cloth so that the finish of the countertop is not marred. To keep the countertop looking like new, it can be resealed with a clear sealant every year or two to fill in any small scratch that have appear in the finish and keep the stone of the countertop protected from any items that could mar or damage it.

One of the most sensible things that you can add in your small kitchen plan is a small island. The island can serve as your working space as well as provide you with a storage space where you can store a few kitchen stuffs like kitchen utensils and the likes. Another thing that you can add in your kitchen that can save you a lot of storage spaces are cabinets that can be lined up and hanged on both sides of the kitchen isle to make use of the space in the middle.

Also, make sure to have good lighting, one that is neither too bright nor too dim for you to work on. As to your pots and pans, it's your choice as to whether you want to hang it and give the kitchen a homely feel, or you can use the storage spaces like the little island or the cabinets to store your pots and pans with. Making use of small space while still boasting of purpose is the best design one can have in any kitchen, big or small.

A plinth, or kickboard, is often extra along he bottom edge of the foot units, to make them appear to stand straight on the floor, and give the kitchen a solid over look. While these are often useful in a material that matches the cupboards, using contrasting materials such as stainless steel can add an interesting contemporary twist to a kitchen.

Otherwise, it's becoming increasingly popular nowadays to do away with plinths entirely and instead make a feature of the cabinets’ legs. With the help of lighting under the units in particular, this can create a more open look in the room, making it feel more spacious.

Undermount sinks or undercounter kitchen sinks blend with the countertop to make a soft look. The rims are not shown above the countertop. The bowl is installed under the countertop. Deep kitchen sinks are one type of undermount sinks obtainable as single bowl kitchen sinks, double bowl sinks, or triple bowl kitchen sinks. The extra bowls may cost you extra, but it might be worth the money if it helps you with everyday chores such as wash dishes or wash twins.

Drop in kitchen sinks, also known as rimmed sinks need metal strips in the countertop for the sink to lie on. This is the least luxurious type of sink and can be used with any type of countertop material. Apron front sinks is a case of a drop in sink. Farmhouse sinks can be a drop-in kitchen sink or undermount kitchen sink. Corner kitchen sinks are shaped as a double bowl sink.

Wall mount sinks lets you place a sink in the laundry room, in-between cabinets, bathroom, anywhere you satisfy.

  1. With a tape calculate; calculate your wall to decide usable wall space.
  2. Create a sketch to map out your project. Decide the number of shelves, clearance between shelves, and lengths of shelves. This procedure is critical and makes every choice easier moving forward. Reviewing design magazine photos can help jumpstart your originality.
  3. Keep in brain visual guides that already exist: countertop and cabinet heights, window frame heights and table heights. Use them to outline the top and bottom of the shelving unit. Do this and your project will visually fit your space and have a more custom look.

  4. Have an idea of what you want to store on your shelving unit. Plates, glasses and often used food items are good ideas, and help you to recognize which shelves need more support.
  5. Look at the equipment already in your kitchen. Be aware of metal and wood tones, wall color and accent colors. This will help decide what kind of shelves you buy.
  6. At your local home or association store, find a knowledgeable clerk to help you. Bring paint samples or dish towels with you to the store and show them this equipment along with your picture. With their help, select your shelves and bracket. Get extra screws and wall anchor as backup. Also purchase additional brackets for weight-bearing shelves.
  7. Select baskets, storage items and attractive elements that fit your plan and organize with the existing equipment in your kitchen. With someone from the store helping you, this process goes much faster.
  8. Back in your kitchen, lay out the shelves on your floor to visually see what you're creating. Keep in mind how far apart you want the shelves to be from each other. This step gets ignored all the time.
  9. With a pencil, level and measure tape, start mapping on the wall where each shelf will go. Many shelves come with adhesive guides that join to the wall. This makes the procedure of leveling, locating screw locations and position much easier.
  10. After you've mapped the shelves, use a stud finder to locate jewelry. Stand back and appraisal and readjust as necessary. Keep in mind how the overall shelving unit looks aligned with your obtainable cabinets, windows and countertops. Double-check all before you drill. Is all level? Is each screw location marked and accurate? Are your shelf clearances workable?

  11. Following the information built-in with the shelves, start drilling and mounting each shelf. Work from the top down. The lowest shelf is the last shelf to be installed. This is the best part of the plan. With all drilling location marked and double-checked, fitting profits quickly.
  12. It's time to start loading the shelves. Almost nothing's more fulfilling than emptying out cabinet space, removing clutter from countertops and create a visually pleasing new element to your kitchen.

There are three key zones to a kitchen which expert kitchen planners aim to link together by create a 'working triangle'.

  1. Food storage & preparation – fridge and worktop
  2. Cooking – oven and hob
  3. Cleaning up – sink and dishwasher

The whole length of the three sides of this triangle should be between 3.6m and 6.6m to make the optimal working space.
This condition means that the locating of desired appliances should be careful before the base units are fitted around them. With this in mind, kitchens are generally laid out in one of five distinct floor plans, as shown below;

Straight Line
In very narrow rooms, it may only be likely to fit a single run of cupboards and appliance. While a working triangle cannot strictly be achieved, the three key zones should group all related pieces of equipment together to optimise the working surfaces.

Galley
An economical layout that is mainly useful in slim rooms which require access and exit at both ends. Be sure to allow at least 1200mm among the front edges of each run of cupboards to allow for drawers and doors to open and ease of passage.

Galley kitchen
L-Shaped
This is an accepted layout that makes for a user-friendly and uncluttered kitchen, while usually leaving space for a dining area too.

U-Shaped
Where no through traffic need be allowed, a U-shaped kitchen create an efficient workspace where all areas are within easy reach, and also often include the bonus of a good expanse of worktop. Remember to ensure that the two parallel runs of cupboards are at least 1200mm not together to allow for drawers and doors to open and ease of passage.

Island
Islands occupy quite a bit of space so often need a fairly large room to allow successful integration. That said, they very neatly reduce the amount of walking that needs to be done in such a big kitchen.

Islands may be 600mm deep, but most often they are 900mm deep, as long as useful additional work or dining room. If services are carried to the island, they can also lodge hobs or sinks. Be sure to leave 1200mm between the face of the island and any other cupboard or appliance to allow for drawers and doors to open, and for ease of passage.

  • Arrangement your kitchen according to your lifestyle. A family will have different expectations from a kitchen than a young couple. Keep this also in mind when planning your storage.

  • Plan the main area (sink, food preparation and hob) close together. This will make your kitchen more competent.

  • When measuring the size of the kitchen, make sure that the exact shape of the walls is known. If there is an inwards corner in the room it will influence the shape of the worktop and the put of the wall-cupboards.

  • If you decide for a two-way galley kitchen, leave enough walking space between the two galleys.

  • If choosing a U-shaped kitchen, consider the floor space you will have left and maybe choose to use one of the legs of the U as a breakfast bar.

  • If you like to cook with a lot of fresh vegetables or you need a big freezer, consider a big fridge/freezer at the end of your worktop for loads of storage and easy access.

  • Store heavy items in the cupboards underneath the worktop.

  • Kitchens will always have drawers with all sorts of goods in it, like pens, buttons, matches and sandwich bags. To create more order, use little plastic boxes or special drawer organisers. You will find what you need much quicker.

  • Store rarely used items on the highest shelves of your cupboard to keep easy accessible space free for daily use.

  • Store your utensils near to where you are most likely to use them. This will make your kitchen well-organized.

  • Keep your worktop clutter free for a tidy look.

  • To disguise a boiler you can build a spice rack in front of it. This will not take a lot of space and will be an attractive display for all your spices.

  • Think about where you want your main bin to be situated. Try to integrate it in the area below the worktop to keep outlook of the kitchen clean and clutter-free.
  • Don't forget to give your cookery books a place in your kitchen!

When considering your personal kitchen floor plan, for safety reasons you should adhere to the following rule:-

  • Minimum distance between sink and hob of 600mm (2ft).

  • Minimum gap of 760mm (2ft 6in) above the hob.

  • A hob and oven should not be located such that any door can swing open against them.

  • A hob must have a clear worktop or a space of at least 200mm (8in), on either side. This is mainly important where tall cupboards or walls contain a hob; these should be at least 200mm (8in) away from the edge of the hob to check heat damage and allow for pan handle movement.

  • A hob must not be located underneath a window as draughts can turn off gas fire and leaning across a hob to open the window is dangerous.

  • Minimum expanse of 1200mm (3ft 11in) between any two rows of cupboards that face one another, for model in a galley kitchen, or where an island has been installed. This allows for drawers and the doors of front-loading appliances to be opened, while allowing ease of passage.

  • Avoid short runs of worktop of less than 1000mm (3ft 3in) everywhere possible.

  • A run of worktop should be supported by a vertical strut every 600mm (2ft). Where two appliances are sited next to each other, allow space for a behind panel to be located between them.

There is an immense collection of kitchen taps available on the market today to satisfy all tastes and budget and match any kitchen design system, then means that the final choice only comes down to aesthetic look and functionality. The following direct explains all the key variables to help you confidently select the right tap for your needs.

Before diving straight to tap brochures, consider first the sink you have chosen for your kitchen. Remember that if you’re appropriate a new tap in an open sink, or have purchase a sink with pre-drilled tap holes, you should select a tap that requires the same number of holes to help simplify the fixing. Also, a sink with more than one bowl will be best coupled with a mixer tap with a portable spout.

Types of kitchen tap

Basically there are 3 variables main design of taps:

  • The number of faucets from which water flows.
  • The number of holes that need to be made in the worktop, sink or wall.
  • The number of valves controlling the flow of water

  1. Clean the countertop carefully with soap and warm water.
  2. Sand the countertop carefully and remove the dust with a clear-water rinse.
  3. Roll the primer on and let dry quickly. Be sure to ventilate the area well throughout the method.

  4. After the primer has dried and I mean dried give it at least quickly. You can apply an oil-based topcoat. I like to cut in with a natural bristle brush, then apply the paint with a 7-inch roller cover that has a 1/4-inch nap. Most paint-roller frames are 9 inches in length, but the smaller frame is easier to plan around countertops and cabinets. The 1/4-inch nap is great for oil-based products, just enough paint is held in the nap and it rolls on a nice, even finish.
  5. Tape-off the preferred design. Working from the middle out, use a pouncing technique and a small brush to apply the lighter color, filling in a small area. Blend the medium color, and then the dark paint, overlapping the colors while also loading the brush as you go. The paint will build a fairly heavy film, but as the colors start to level, it will give you the desired granite look. Oil provides a little more working time since is dries slower than latex paint.

  6. While the paint is still wet, start adding the veins that give marble its unique feature. Using a small artist's brush, and white paint, push the brush forward, with a very gentle touch; let the brush work for you. Sometimes the vein will be thick and sometimes it will break off and start again. Sometimes the vein will be thick and sometimes it will break off and start again. Have fun with this step
  7. Let the paint completely dry , and then apply several coats of polyurethane for protection.

Kitchen remodel requires two sets of plans of the floor plan layout. Show any walls which are going to be removed. Show location of all windows and electrical receptacles. All counter top space must be served by GFCI's and two 20 amp. breakers.

Kitchen counter receptacles- NO point along the wall line is more than 24" measured horizontally from a receptacle outlet. Island counter tops 12" or wider shall have at least one receptacle for each 4' of countertop . A 4 prong outlet shall be used for an installation of a new range. All counter top space shall now be served by GFCI receptacles with two or more 20 amp. circuits shall be installed in kitchen. All counter top receptacles shall be protected by ground fault circuit interrupter.

It is the busiest room in the home and often needs the most development: the kitchen. Remodel kitchens increase the value of the home and makes it more pleasant to cook, live and dine in. However, many homeowners are left wondering how to create the cooking haven of their ideas on a plan.

Now about everyone has cost concerns when it comes to remodeling. Very few people have unlimited budgets, so doing study on various options will go a long way to stretching your dollars, certified kitchen and bathroom designer and director of design for Shenandoah Cabinetry. Edwards offers some valuable tips for controlling costs when remodeling the kitchen.

Do as much of the work physically as you can. Wallpaper removal, light destruction, and cleaning up after subcontractors require hard work as different to skill; there is no point in paying able contractors to clean up.

Buy stock cabinets. Instead of having cabinets custom-made, find a line of stock cabinets that you like. Shenandoah Cabinetry, sold exclusively at Lowe’s, is a stock cabinet producer that offers a wide range of premium assembly features and accessories at a value price.

Use other materials instead of costly marble or stone. Cover countertops and single strips create rich-looking surfaces on a modest budget. When choosing faucets, brushed and polished chrome is vastly less costly than more exotic finishes, and basic white fittings are budget open and won’t look dated in a decade.

"Wow" the island. The island is the first thing that people notice when they walk into the kitchen, so keep the main cabinets simple and put the emphasis on the island. Make the island pop by increasing the thickness of the countertop, using a premium finish or glaze on just the island cabinetry, or illuminating the island with inexpensive but attractive pendant lights.

Work within your open space. Annexing space from a nearby room or remove a wall can be costly, so add storage and association features to new cabinets to utilize space you already have. Many of these accessories are now factory installed, such as those offered in Shenandoah’s Organization Options program, making things simpler for the user and easier on their wallet.

Use fairly priced matter in an appealing way. Small splurges in small spaces like a glass tile backsplash behind the oven range will spruce up the kitchen and is the best use of your dollars.

Consult a design expert. A design professional can help you avoid costly mistakes and ensure the job is done powerfully.
